Rainy Days

It was overcast and rainy today. A rarity in the desert. When my day begins well, the cloudy days are peaceful and playful. When my day is not so great(like today), these days are mostly gloomy and melancholy. My kids on the other hand, were excited about the rain and spent lots of time in front of the window watching it soak the neighborhood. Watching them made me smile and begin to appreciate the new life that can sprout up because of raining day. Tiny seeds gain access to nutrients through the rain and eventually grown into large canopies providing shelter from that same rain.  Regardless of my mood, the rain is God's way of saying that life goes on, good or bad. It made me want to make sure my days were filled with more of the good ones.

Butterflies, Beauty and the 1920's

Took the kids to the Phoenix Art Museum today. I love that it's free Wednesday nights. Quiting my day job has put a bit of a pinch on the budget so any free exposure to culture is thoroughly embraced. My primary purpose for going today was to check out the 1920's fashion exhibit. I feel lucky to have a museum so close that has a fashion gallery. I dream of working there sometimes...then I wake up and hug my kids. Although we have been to the Phoenix Art Museum many times, every time I go, it still amazes me. Today in particular. We saw them right away. The butterflies covering the walls. To our giddy surprise, they extended down the hall, up the ceilings, and in towards the galleries.  It was magnificent. I took what pictures I could with my phone, but it really doesn't do it justice. I think I could have sat there for an hour staring at it. However, my baby boy reminded me he likes to move in his stroller and standing still is not an option. We didn't have time to see the entire museum today, which was fine with us. We made sure to really take in what we could and left our 20's excursion for last. When we entered the fashion gallery, the wall was covered with Vogue and Harper's Bazaar from the era. The hand drawn art work was not only inspiring but strangely familiar. It reminded me of how cyclical fashion is. I don't really have words to describe the dresses we saw,  but I don't think I have seen an equal to them...and it's possible I never will. They were ornate and delicate and surged up so much emotion in me, I could hardly get myself to leave. As museum rules go, we were not allowed to take pictures. On my own, I may have snuck in a few, but trying to set a good example, I resisting the pressing urge. We left the museum with a sense of satisfaction. We held our heads a little higher knowing we had just experienced a little slice of beauty.

The Mess

My blog has been a bit of a jumbled mess lately. I think with the wedding being in 3 weeks,it's close to impossible to keep my thought straight. I apologize for anything I post from now until the end of May. I should be regaining my sanity around the beginning of June and will post some stuff you might actually want to read.

Miss you Holly

One of my favorite people has up and moved to Ireland to be with her love! How romantic is that!!! The music and senary is breathtaking in Ireland and we are all so extremely jealous. But as not to forget her, I've copied a link to a great compliation I found. Tis a bittersweet farewell....

Wedding music

I pretty much have everything set for the wedding except some of the smaller stuff. But the one thing I keep getting stuck on is the music for the ceremony!! The reception is almost all done, but man...going through all the different songs and compositions is a bid maddening!! I want it to be elegant and NOT cheesy or too over the top and for some reason that has been a challenge. It's probably cause I'm just too picky. My mother says I need to let it go. Arg! ok mom.

New Etsy pics

I took some new pictures of my necklaces for Etsy. I like them much better. The whole process is pretty time consuming, but I enjoy it. Just wish I had more time to do it all. I wonder if there are people who make a living from selling items on Etsy. Wow, wouldn't that be awesome!
